I have had my fountain for several years and still love it! You do have to take apart and thoroughly clean the pump to keep it running well. I recently replace the pump but mine has run non stop for several years. My cats and dogs all drink from it.
I purchased the Pagoda Fountain about four months ago and had to work out a few problems in the beginning after which my 3 cats took to it like ducks to water. They love drinking out of the top and I think because of the fountain, they are now drinking more water. In the beginning, the pump didn't work very well so I took the charcoal filter out and it ran much better. I love the sound it makes and I can tell when it needs to be refilled/cleaned because it sounds like it's gasping for air. One problem I had with not using the filter was that after a few weeks the water started overflowing onto the floor and I could not figure out for the life of me, how it was doing it. I decided to put the charcoal filter back in and it works great again. I use filtered water in the fountain because we use a Brita filter for our drinking water and I only have to clean it every two days. My cats love it and I love it too. Great Job!
I bought this fountain last year. I have four cats and they love this fountain. You must clean it at a minimum of once a week when you have multiple cats. I had to replace the pump after a year of use and was able to obtain the necessary part easily. I have ordered the filters on line and found them at local pet stores. I'm so happy we purchased this fountain and recommend it to anyone seeking such an item
Vet recommends my two cats drink more water and this worked out perfectly. One of them had developed bladder stones and drinking more water helps to keep their bladder working to help avoid them. They are intrigued by the fountain and after the first day I notice them already drinking more. They are nine years old and always drank from a bowl until now. I have the unit on the other side of the apartment from where their food is located. This product was pretty simple to put together and ordering and shipping from this site was excellent and fast. Not much noise but then again I am in Manhattan so this is basically silent to me.
I've had mine for about a year and I love it (and so does my kitty!)! I wasn't sure she would drink out of it, but was ok with that because I like the noise it makes. However, she loves it! So glad to have it!
I've had this fountain for almost a year now. I have had no issues with the pump. My cats love it and drink so much. They seem to most enjoy drinking the water from the top level where the water bubbles up, but they also drink from the stream and bottom bowl as well. There is quite a bit of noise from the falling water so be sure you're ok with that before you get this fountain. It's not much of a bother and I have gotten used to it by now. I honestly don't clean it as much as I should, maybe once every other week or so. The pump does make a loud noise when the water level gets low and it doesn't pump as much water up when the water level goes down. I once came home and the cats had spilled all of their water out and the pump was making a terrible noise I thought it had burned out. I have no idea how long it was going on for, but I added water and it started working as normal again. I would highly recommend this fountain. It has been a great investment and I will repurchase should my fountain ever break.
My geriatric cats are now drinking more water. My 15 year old has stage three kidney disease, and this fountain has been just what I've needed for her to drink more water. It's quiet and the waterfall sound draws them to the beautiful fountain.
Our two cats love this product. So easy for them to get to fresh water. The fountain just 'invites' them to be curious and try it out. Easy to clean. You can monitor their water intake by the amount you have to refill it each day. Very attractive, fits any decor.
Our cats are so happy to have fresh water. They would always be on top of you when you run the sink but now they have a healthy and safe fountain of their own to enjoy. All cats like movement in their water and this is the purrrfect way to give your fur baby just that. We love it! It runs great and is also very stylish to boot. Amazing product!!! #welovepetsafe
After one of our cats had a UTI, we decided to purchase this fountain. It has been the best cat investment we've made. All of our cats love it and drink from it daily. I'm hoping to prevent further UTIs and kidney issues.
I've had no problems with the pump, but in reading many reviews I learned to only use distilled water with this fountain. It does cost about $1 per week to use distilled water, though. I purchased this 8 months ago and the fountain is still running just fine (knock on wood : ).
I have had all kinds of pets over the last 50+ years, I have always had cats. At one time I had 14 at the same time, I only have two now. Over the years I have tried many water supply systems for my companions. When I found the Pagoda Fountain (which I have had for about a year and a half) I fell in love. The shape is very pleasing to the eye and being ceramic is a big health plus for my furry four-leggeds. The two level water gives them a choice, and they drink both from the fountain and the "pool". Clean up is easy, but one must take the time to be thorough! Dismantling and cleaning of the pump is a must. I use a solution of hot water, dish soap and bleach and allow everything to "soak" for about 20 minutes before washing thoroughly and allowing to dry before reassembly. I do this about twice a month. My cats drink distilled water. I have never had a problem with this unit. One other thing that makes live easy, I have a subscription with Pet Safe where they send me replacement filters automatically (on my schedule) which saves trips to the store or not having them when I need them.
I really like this product and have owned it for a little over 2 months. I have six cats and there are a couple of them that love to play in the water, so they'd literally try digging the water out of the bowl. I had a mat under the bowl with an edge to catch most of the water. However, the cats would enthusiastically dig the water and fling it out beyond the mat. I read somewhere that a fountain might help. I don't like plastic, since it absorbs stains and sometimes they are very cheaply built. I bought my PetSafe Pagoda fountain because it was made out of ceramic and was heavy enough to keep the cats from moving it. It was not too difficult to set up and I had absolutely no problem with it leaking. I only had it stop working one time, but that was due to the cats bumping the tower and moving it off the pump filter housing. Once I cleaned it out and reassembled it, it began working as normal. More importantly, my cats used it right away and they DO NOT play in the water any longer. I just add a little water everyday and clean it out once a week.
Great, Great, Great fountain, love it and so does my kitty. Definitely recommend
I've had the Pagoda fountain for 6-8 months now & I really love it. Got it for my kitty, but discovered I loved the way it sounded & so 1st I moved it from kitchen to an end table in my living room. Then I still couldn't hear it well enough so it is now sitting on my coffee table & looks great & is great conversation piece. I thoroughly enjoy having the water flow sound & find it very calming & relaxing. Everyone that sees it has to ask me about it. My kitty loves it too & he doesn't splash too much. One of my surprises was just how easy it is to clean. I read many reviews that complain about how hard it is & time consuming. I must be lucky with mine because when I'm just cleaning the fountain itself & the filters, it takes me about 10 minutes from start to finish, if I put fountain in dishwasher even less. I forgot about the pump needing cleaning & noticed just this week that the waterfall was just a trickle. So I changed the filters & cleaned everything & hooked it back up & the pump wouldn't come on & I thought Rut Ro I'm in trouble now. But I read the instructions again & saw the part about taking the pump apart & cleaning it so thats what I did. Man I'm a dummy sometimes. It had run all these months without being cleaned I'm amazed it didn't burn up. Since this was 1st time to be cleaned it did take awhile plus I didn't have proper cleaning brushes. But once I cleaned it & put everything back together I crossed my fingers & plugged it in & "Voila" it started bubbling like it was brand new. I can now hear it really well again & ahhhh...I could feel my blood pressure going down. LOL I also want to say that the fountain is about 3' from where I sit & I cannot hear the motor at all, I can be right next to it & stiIl hear no noise I have seen quite a few complaints about the noise they make so I must be the luckiest, no noisy pump and a wonderful, beautiful fountain that I don't mind sharing with my kitty.
My two cats enjoy the fresh, flowing water and the Pagoda fountain is an attractive addition to my kitchen decor. It's a very nice blend of form and function. I now have pampered pets plus a water feature which is visually attractive and soothing to the ear. So far, it operates flawlessly and was well worth the price.
The fountain seemed a little expensive at first, but it's so much more well-built than some of the plastic ones I saw at PetSmart that I definitely think it's worth the extra money. We have 2 Bengal cats who enjoy drinking from running water and they took to the new fountain right away. It does require a bit of monthly maintenance to keep it clean, but it comes with clear instructions, is not difficult to perform and is worth the extra effort to keep our cats drinking happily. We use inexpensive gallon jugs of purified drinking water, rather than tap water, which seems to keep it even cleaner. I would recommend this fountain to others.
This is a well-built ceramic fountain that is much sturdier than some of the cheaper plastic options I've seen at pet supply stores. We have 2 Bengal cats and they've always enjoyed drinking out of the sinks and faucets. They took to this fountain instantly. We've had it for a month now and it works very well and I can tell that our cats are drinking more water. Which is great since they're getting on in years.
Be aware that the fountain is not without maintenance. It's not hard to clean, but I think it's very important to clean it and replace the filters as the manufacturer suggests. It takes about 30 minutes to clean it and replace the filters on a monthly basis. That will probably get faster when I get more used to the process. The instructions are well-written.
Also, we have been using inexpensive gallon jugs of bottled drinking water from Target and it seems to stay very clean. I'm sure the bottled water is cleaner than Atlanta tap water.
I would recommend this fountain. And yes, it makes a pleasing spa-like sound.
I bought this ceramic fountain after having an original Drinkwell in continuous operation for more than 5 years for my cats. This Pagoda Fountain sits on the kitchen counter and not only provides clean, filtered, and oxygenated water for my cats 24/7, but also provides a relaxing Zen-like ambiance to our eating area due to the sound of the flowing water. Sounds like a fresh-water stream right in the kitchen! Cats love it; we are considering an Avalon for the third fountain in the group. Cleaning is simple and fast. I clean both fountains daily and the ceramic is by far the easiest to maintain. I had other brands of ceramic fountains, but the Drinkwell pumps are the quietest and hassle-free. Drinkwell Rules!
This fountain is lovely and also soothing at the same time. The sound of the water flowing is so peaceful. The motor is quiet so that doesn't diminish the sound of the flowing water. This fountain is easy to set up and simple to clean. I wanted to watch the video on how to cleanp to reduce potential issues since I am not a handyman. It was easy and pieces come apart and snap back together with ease. I have painful muscles and joints which limits my strength and I could disassemble and reassemble with ease. The most challenging part of cleaning is lifting the bowl and removing the water as it is a bit heavy for me. I found it is best to put a towel on the floor and place the components on the towel after cleaning. The Pagoda is ceramic which is a material that does chip easy, but I have managed to not drop it. Just clean and manage it with extra care.
My kitties used the drinkwell platinum prior to the pagoda so were already used to flowing water. It was a few hours before they starting drinking from it though. I used only filtered water in the fountain. I don't know if it matters or not since there is the charcoal filter as part of the system. I do live in area with very hard water however.
This fountain is very pretty. I was tempted to put it out on display!
Even after a traumatic start (my kids dropped something on the main bowl and chipped it the FIRST day we had it), we love this fountain, and our 3 kitties love it too... I have seen negative reviews that it is difficult to clean and takes an hour each time. That seems ridiculous. I have cleaned this several times in the months we have had this fountain, and it has never taken more than 10-15 minutes. Just a little hair-raising at times as the porcelain is fragile and I've almost shattered it a couple times...
I left my review and then a few weeks later the flow slowed so far down it wasn’t hardly moving. I thoughaly cleaned it even with q-tips but still barely was flowing. I finally figured out,I forgot to change the charcoal filter. I didn’t have an extra at the time so I just removed the old one for right now and WOW does that water flow now!
We love the fountain as do our 5 cats. The foam filter listed under accessories is for the 360 fountain (which we also have. These filters do not fit the pagoda fountain; they are too big. I cannot find the smaller filters on your website.
But it definitely needs a more powerful pump and better directions. I figured out the assembly after a few irritating hiccups but I still doubted myself due to the weak water flow. I read other reviews and realized it was a common complaint. My cat took to it quickly and it keeps the water cool. I enjoy the peaceful sound. It's a hit overall but I wish it had a stronger water stream.
We have had this fountain for nearly 2 years. Since we have had it, my cat has lost her obsession with the sink faucets. We have just the one cat and find that we have to clean the fountain at least two times per week and rinse the charcoal filter thoroughly or the water flow slows to a trickle and puts stress on the pump. I just had to order a new pump anyway because the cord split where it enters the ceramic tube. I feel that it is worth the investment and worth the time it takes to clean it. My cat loves this fountain and drinks more water than she would otherwise. I would have given 5 stars but the charcoal filters don't always last 2 weeks even with the frequent rinsing. That being said, I do think this is the best fountain on the market and I recommend it to anyone who is willing to put in the time to keep this fountain and the filters as clean as they need to be.
Have had this fountain for about a year and it's still going strong. I'm rather surprised at the people who have had trouble with it (although I'm not inferring it's their fault). I don't clean it nearly as often as I probably should other than changing the water and rinsing it out every two or three weeks. It gets a thorough cleaning and new filter once a month, and probably would be less if not for the calcium buildup on the fountain, which is really the only annoyance. I only fill it with filtered water from the fridge.
I use a decalcifier/descaler soak on it during the big cleanings (stuff for coffee makers), letting everything soak for about an hour and then quick clean with dish soap and rinse. I've NEVER taken the pump apart. Just a meticulous rinse-out with soap and hot water. The pump is still going strong. (I've had working pumps on other fountains simply stop working after plugging them back in after cleaning, though).
The only other thing worth mentioning is the water splashing is a bit annoying sometimes, but you kinda have to expect that.
I wanted to give this a 4.5. it would be a 5 if the pump were a little more powerful.
Overall it's a very good unit - I have two cats and they drink all day long - the reservoir is fine and it breaks down well for cleaning.
My 2 cents - I've read the comments about the pump not working or breaking down. I find that the key is that it absolutely has to be disassembled and swabbed out - a small brush or q-tip cotton swab will do - as gunk forms and slows it down - the crud that collects is amazing and with my cats shedding right now the accumulation is significant. A dab of mineral oil on the shaft of the impeller keeps it running well.
My kitty has bladder issues and needs fresh water at all times...this fountain is perfect....he loves drinking from it and it operates without much attention besides changing the filters and keeping it clean..I give it 2 paws up for reliability......
Great product so far... I bought one in blue and love it. Easy to clean
Easy to clean than lotus or 360 stainless steel. Only problem is the price and the size. I wish it has bigger size. My cats also love it. Also I like the idea about rubber cap along the power cord. It makes much easier not to worry about spill the water on the floor.
I’ve had this fountain for years and replaced the pump recently after the pump’s flow weakened significantly (I did try cleaning the pumps interior). I replaced the pump and I’m now having the same issue, barely a trickle. I know it needs regular cleaning and filter replacement. It used to have a good flow and you could hear the water now it’s quiet with a weak flow.
I love the fountain, as do the cats. However, the filters are getting clogged within only 3-4 days and water will not flow anymore. When I go to change them, the filter is covered in slime. Even with washing and scraping the filter clean, the best I can do is a MAYBE a week with one filter. Seems to be too much maintenance for an expensive product.
I've had this fountain for about a month and my cat refuses to drink from it. I had the round stainless one for quite a while and he always drank from it. Before that I had the plastic one for years with no problems. What can I do to make it less noisy?
The fountain is attractive and the pump is quiet. The problem is that there were NO instructions in the box when it arrived. It took quite a bit of time to get it assembled and am still not sure I got it right. You also have NO online instructions also. What was there is poor and was not of any help.
I bought this fountain about 6 months ago and my cat loves it, unfortunately the pump is not made of as high quality parts as the fountain. I watched the youtube video and I clean the pump at least weekly. I've never had any build up issues, as it is just one cat that uses it. Despite all that, the pump has slowed down. Also, even though I used the cleaning kit, the front grill broke during cleaning. I wasn't being rough with it, it's made out of a very soft cheap plastic. To have to replace this pump every 6 months is not something I expected when I bought it.
Also, the charcoal filters could be majorly improved. It's not a little residue. It leaves a pretty unsightly bathtub style ring in the fountain, even if you pre-rinse. By the time it stops it's almost time to replace it. I don't know why they would choose this type of filter for a fountain that is white inside.
It's a shame, otherwise it's beautiful fountain and the perfect height and size for cats to drink out of and dip their paws in.
Love the esthetics of this fountain and decided to purchase one after owning one of the traditional style fountains for 7yrs with no problems. Unfortunately, after 6mths the pump has stopped working. I have the original box, but not the receipt. Hate the idea of having to spend another $100 to replace-was hoping for a product that was just as good, if not better, than one that has traveled all over the country with me for 7yrs.
Disappointed...looks great, HOWEVER after a little more than 6 months of use, with proper filter changes and cleaning, the pump stopped working. Feeling bummed, spent a LOT of money on this watering system to have the pump go out :(
This is an absolute piece of junk!!! I purchased it three weeks ago and cleaned it every weekend to ensure it was tip top. I have one cat, not a multi cat home and not a lot of saliva. Now, three weeks after purchasing it, the motor has quit. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!!!
I have had our fountain for a little over a year. The original pump that came with it only lasted 10 months. I purchased another pump from this site just a few months ago and it already quit working. We change the filter often and keep the water level high. I'm not going to buy a pump every few months.
You shouldn’t have to clean it every other day and replace filters every 4 days! The ceramic is very nice. The pump and filter design stinks. It worked great until the first filter change. As time went on, we had to clean it and change the filter more and more frequently. No it will pump great for.... two or three days. A thorough cleaning does nothing, only changing the filter helps. We put nothing but water that has already been charcoal-filtered into the fountain. We have 1 cat. My conclusion is that the pump is not powerful enough to lift the water unless everything is perfectly clean, or the filter is too narrow (so it clogs too quickly), or both. I had a 75 gallon fish tank for many years, and never had this kind of filter/pum issue with it! It’s such a pain to lift the whole thing up, empty the water, clean everything, put it back together (way too easy to get it misaligned!), and fill it up to be doning this every other day. Much easier to change water in a dish every day!
