We have had this cat door for 9 years and it works great! It allows us to keep our litter boxes in the garage. Our cats are always happy to use the cat door. We are replacing it with the same because the lock stopped working.
My cats and I love the freedom the PetSafe - 2-Way Locking Cat Door allows. It was easy to install and so far has lasted five years. One of my best purchases. I just purchased three more as gifts.
I love mine. We installed it in the door perfectly. It does the job! The cats can get some alone time away from the dog and the dog doesn't have access to their food and litter. Best investment ever!!!!!
I've had this door for 10 years and have been very happy with it. I have 4 cats so it's gotten a lot of use. The locking mechanism has gotten loose over time so I now put tape on it to keep it in the open position, but otherwise no issues. Very good value for the money. I would definitely purchase it again.
We bought this for our new house to give our cats a way to escape from our dogs and give them freedom to move about. We did not know when purchased that the door didn’t go alll the way through the door like dog doors we’ve purchased for exterior doors. Is there a piece you can buy to cover the exposed hollow core of the door???
A friend got this for the door from the kitchen to the basement so the cats could go do their thing with out the dashound following and I volunteered to install it.
This is very simple, though when they say this fits a "Fits interior doors 1/2 - 2 inches thick" they mean just that, and to install it in the door I was installing it in which was less than 1/4 inch thick, it was simple to trim a wee bit of a piece out of the back trim piece so the magnet fit into it and the trim is flush all the way around. I had to use shorter screws as well, but for this price, any adaption was well worth it. I did clean the door frame, and door before using the double sided tape to make sure it adhered well. The centering and cutting takes some DIY talent, but it was smooth, and fit in the door so well even with the two sided tape for the back trim piece, though I am going to go back and put caulk around the outside of the back trim to make sure it stays in place. (one could drill holes and put in bolts with nice caps if they had too. If I was installing it in a thicker door, I might sand and paint the inside first if there was a chance it showed, again for the price, its easy. The cat's fit great, the dog doesn't, and I'm sure it will be fine. Again for the price this is a good door!!!! No matter what door your putting in you will need some kind of DIY talent, and understanding that your adding something to where ever your putting it, and so your "re-making" something what might not have been made to be used like your intending. If I wanted a door for my cats I would buy this for an INTERIOR door!
I bought it recently thinking that it was also for dogs according to one of the ads , but it seems that it’s a cat door. My dog is using it anyways but advertising should be updated.
I like the size and design of this cat door. It fits well on the garage door which is thin. My 15.4# cat can get through it OK. My cat, who will do anything to get outdoors, broke the door flap on the first 2 doors that I got. On the 3rd door, the lock fell off --- I don't know if the cat was able to pry it off or it was defective. I keep coming back to this door since the hole is already cut in the door and it works --- it is just not make from very sturdy materials for a big cat that won't give up until he gets outside.
By now we've experience the same problem with all 6 cat doors of this design. The Flap turn brittle over time (2 years)because the plastic is not UV stable. We've installed this product in the garage doors of our assorted barns and find that the flapper routinely breaks at the hing point, often showing cracks first. I'm dissatisfied with the short lifetime of this product.
Agree with lisa's review, lip on pet safe door is not deep enough leaving exposed wood. Two pieces do not connect. Previous door had deeper lip and there wasn't any wood showing.
It's not clear when purchasing that if your door is thicker than a half inch, this doors will leave a GAP between the two sides. If your door is hollow, that means a wide open gap all the way around the inside of the door. Just installed it and will immediately have to order a new door and replace it.
